Are you volunteering or employed as a youth support worker in Wales? Did you know that there is a deadline for qualification in May 2025?

Those historically registered with the EWC with a level 2 qualification will need to achieve the level 3 qualification before May 2025. Those who do not achieve level 3 will be removed from the register in May 2025.

Adult Learning Wales is offering you the opportunity to apply for a place on a majority funded course to support you to qualify before this deadline.  these qualifications are endorsed by Education Training Standards (ETS) Wales and are also a requirement for registration with Education Workforce Council (EWC) Wales as a Youth Support Worker. It is a legal requirement in Wales that all paid and practicing Youth Support Workers in Wales are registered with EWC.

Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles (part of Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice).

If you need to start your Youth Support Worker Training you will need to apply for the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles.  

If you have a completed a Level 2 Youth Work Qualification pre 2020, 

you will need to apply for the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles.

Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice

If you have the  Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles from 2020 - 2025, you will need to progress to complete the full Youth Support Worker Qualification.  This is the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice.

Adult Learning Wales are offering 4 online courses to support you to train and qualify by the May 2025 deadline.  These courses are majority funded by ALW and, in many cases, you may only need to pay a registration fee.

The Award in Youth Work is composed of a total of 4 units. These are the first 4 mandatory units of the full Youth Support Worker Qualification (YSWQ). This is called the Certificate in Youth Work Practice and is made up of 9 units.

The Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work is composed of 4 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. You must have already achieved 4 mandatory units in the Award in Youth Work Principles.
